Dr. Urban is a leader in developing innovations in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, and is one of the most popular teachers in the UW-Madison Medical School.

Closing Keynote: Ken Casey
Director of World Vision's HIV/AIDS Initiative
Ken Casey is currently serving as the Special Representative to the President of World Vision International for the HIV/AIDS HOPE Initiative. In this role, Ken provides leadership for the global mobilization of resources and programs to address the growing world-wide pandemic of HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Milton Amayun is Senior Technical Advisor, the Hope Initiative, World Vision International and President of the board of Christian Connections for International Health (CCIH).

Dorothy Ardill is a community organizer and church builder working in “Serving in Mission,” Jos, Nigeria. Dorothy started a street kids ministry in Jos in 1997 which now cares for 150 boys. Two years ago she started a "AIDS widow and orphan bucket" project as a means of helping local churches deliver grains and HIV/AIDS educational material to women.

Dr. Ruth L. Bentley worked as a counselor for the University of Illinois at Chicago and at Trinity College in Deerfield, IL. Her leadership work in Christian organizations includes the National Black Evangelical Association, the National Black Christian Students Conference, her church, Progressived Beulah Pentecostal Church, and the International Christian Coalition for AIDS Reversal and Education (ICCARE), of which she is the founder and chairperson.

Ellwood (Woody) Carey is a retired Presbyterian pastor. During his pastorate at Parkside Presbyterian Church, Madison, the church became the first congregation to be designated as an AIDS Caring Community.

Solveig Carlson is a member of the Mt. Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church, is co-chair of the Global Connections Ministry and chair of the Companion Synod Team (which partners with the Northern Evangelical Lutheran Church in India (Northeast).

Rev. Dale Chapin has been Senior Pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church, Madison, WI., for three years.

Rev. Jon Good is Church Relations Director for World Vision--US. Jon helps congregations grow in their engagement on the issues of HIV/AIDS and introduces pastors to World Vision's work in Africa. Before joining World Vision, Jon worked as a pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church, Madison, and Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina, MN.

Dave Ivaska has served with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students for 35 years. Most recently, he and his wife, Sally, have been living and working with students and staff in southern Africa, learning how to respond biblically to HIV/AIDS issues.

Mark Hagerup is pastor for international ministries at Westbrook church (greater Milwaukee area) and has served with Serving In Mission (SIM) International (formerly Sudan Interior Mission) in Africa, first in Ethiopia, then in Ghana, for 23 years.

Chad Hayward serves as the Acting Director for the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the primary governmental agency extending assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. Prior to joining USAID, Chad worked for Congressman Jim Ryun of Kansas and John Thune of South Dakota.

John Henry is International Director of the University of the Nations Student Mobilization Centre of Youth With A Mission (YWAM). Formerly director of Field Ministry Internships, a principle program of the Center, John has mobilized university students from over 100 universities in eight countries integrating studies with service on short-term community development projects in 27 nations.

Rev. Nathan Gasatura Kamusiime is the Advocacy and Church Partnerships Director for World Vision-Rwanda. He also serves as Vicar of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Kigali, Rwanuda. Nathan has a passion for reconciliation ministry and speaks a dozen languages.

Stella Kasirye, originally of Uganda, is the Representative for World Relief in Malawi.

Sue Moline Larson is Director of the Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin, which represents the Lutheran Church and its position on issues to the political process of the state.

Terry Larson is Pastor of Bristol Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Sun Prairie, WI. He is also a military chaplain, and has just returned from spending six months in the Middle East.

Jena Lee is Director of Blood:Water Mission, the non-profit organization founded by Jars of Clay to promote clean blood and clean water initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. She graduated from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA where she majored in Political Studies. During her college years, she focused on issues of poverty, social stratification, global health, and the psychology of prejudice. She was involved in inner city and youth ministry in Spokane. While at Whitworth she fundraised for various non-profit organizations and established a Student Global AIDS Campaign chapter. Jena lives in Nashville. Dr. Meredith Long is Director of World Relief’s International Health Programs. He has been working with churches in Africa to combat HIV/AIDS since the early 1990s. He is the author of the book Health, Healing, and God’s Kingdom.

Jim Louwsma recently retired from a 28-year career with Proctor and Gamble and is now involved in several ministries including "Churches Together," which seeks to help American churches get involved with the African HIV/AIDS crisis. He is involved with Wooddale Church's Mozambique AIDS ministry and in business development in Southern Africa. Jim is Executive Director of the Academy of Ministerial Leadership, a program of Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, MN.

Dr. Peter Mageto is ordained Methodist Minister and has served congregations in Mombasa and Nairobi, Kenya. He is a graduate of St. Paul’s United Theological College, Limuru, Kenya and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, IL, where he conducted his research on theology, ethics and HIV/AIDS. Currently, Peter is serving as a Missionary-in-Residence at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Methodist Temple in Evansville, IN, and occasionally does adjunct teaching at the University of Evansville. He speaks and has published widely on the topic of theology, the church, and AIDS.

Dr. Daniel Malleboyina is Senior Project Manager, HIV/AIDS Capacity Building Program Operations, Catholic Medical Mission Board, Baltimore, MD

Ellen Mbweza, MRNM, MSc. Nursing, is a Registered Nurse Midwife and Lecturer in the Maternal and Child Health Nursing Department of Kamuzu College of Nursing, University of Malawi. She is studying for a PhD in Nursing at University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research area is gender and HIV among married couples.

Bill Mugford is Senior Pastor of High Point Church, Madison, WI.

Rauni Salminen is Director of The Philip Aziz Center, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Marge Sutinen is an Outreach Specialist with the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Madison, WI, and has been working in the HIV/AIDS field since 1987. She is a certified American Red Cross Instructor Trainer and currently directs the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center in the University of Wisconsin Medical School. She has taugh domestically and internationally to over 40,000, and teaches Contemporary Issues on HIV/AIDS in the Medical Genetics Department.

Grace Tazelaar is Missions Director, Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF), and is based in Villa Park, Ill.

Jennifer Veary is a Registered Nurse and Board Member of He Intends Victory. Jennifer tested positive for HIV in 1991, and has used her diagnosis as an opportunity to share the hope of Jesus Christ. Recently, she and her husband Rusty have been living in Hanoi, providing education, care and support for people living with HIV in Vietnam. Liz Mosbo VerHage is the ONE Organizing Fellow with Bread for the World in their Upper Midwest Regional Office. VerHage studied theology and community development at North Park Seminary in Chicago and is a doctoral student in Ethics in the Garrett Seminary-Northwestern University program in Evanston, IL. She has extensive experience with church-based compassion and justice ministries and asset-based community development, writes widely and has traveled in the Republic of South Africa. Joel Wickre is an MD/MS student in public health and human rights at the UCSF/UC Berkeley Joint Medical Program. Graduating from Dartmouth College with high honors in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology, he is interested in grass roots movements and their integration with international discourse and policy in the areas of health, development and human rights. He advises Blood:Water Mission on water and health initiatives related to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa and is an expert on health and water issues.
